Joy Lohnes received her Bachelors in Biology with an emphasis in Neuroscience from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. She started her special education career as a behavior therapist, working with students with autism and their families in their homes and communities. Joy received her Masters in the Art of Education and teaching certificate (special education endorsement) from Seattle Pacific University.
Joy has worked for Edmonds School District in Lynnwood, Washington for the past 13 years. For 6 years of that time, Joy taught a self-contained classroom of 4th-6th graders for students who presented with severe and impactful behaviors, nonverbal or ineffective communication skills, and pre-academic skills. She has spent a summer working alongside teachers in Tanzania, Africa and two summers in El Salvador, Central America. Joy became a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in 2010 and currently serves as the Autism and Intensive Support Specialist for Edmonds School District.
Joy is currently in a graduate program to receive her certification in Applied Behavioral Analysis and will sit for the exam to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) this year. Joy lives in Shoreline, Washington.
